The surah's big idea

Allah protected the Kaaba from the army of the elephant

1. A plan that failed
Do you know what Allah did to the people of the elephant? A big army came with an elephant to destroy the Kaaba, and Allah made their plan fail.
2. Birds in flocks
Allah sent against them many birds, flock after flock, throwing small stones of hard baked clay at them.
3. Like chewed straw
And they became like dry crop leaves that animals have chewed and left scattered.
