The surah's big idea
Allah is with the patient believers; He is the Forgiving, the Loving
What did I learn from the surah?
1. The sky full of great starsAllah swears by the sky with its great stations that the sun and moon pass through, by the Promised Day when He will gather all creation, and by every witness and what is witnessed.
2. The people of the trenchCursed were those who dug a long trench in the ground and lit a great fire in it to torture the believers, and sat around it watching what they did to them.
3. The Mighty, the PraiseworthyThey punished the believers only because they believed in Allah, the Mighty who cannot be defeated, the Praiseworthy, to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and who witnesses everything.
4. And then did not repentThose who burned the believing men and women to turn them away from their religion, and then did not repent, will have the punishment of Hell and of the burning Fire.
5. The great successThose who believe and do good deeds will have gardens with rivers flowing beneath their palaces. That is the great success.
6. The Forgiving, the LovingYour Lord's punishment of His enemies is severe. He begins creation and brings it back again. He is the Forgiving to whoever repents, the Loving to those close to Him, Owner of the glorious Throne, doing whatever He wills.
7. Pharaoh and ThamudHas the story reached you, O Prophet, peace be upon him, of the armies that denied their prophets, the armies of Pharaoh and Thamud, and what befell them? Yet the disbelievers keep denying, and Allah surrounds them, nothing about them hidden from Him.
8. In a Preserved TabletThe Quran is not poetry or magic as they claimed. It is a glorious, noble Quran, in a Preserved Tablet, never changed or twisted.
