The lessons
1 · Verses 1–6When the sun is wrapped up
On the Last Day the sun will be wrapped up and lose its light, the stars will scatter, the mountains will be moved away, pregnant camels will be left untended, wild beasts will be gathered together, and the seas will be set on fire.
2 · Verses 7–9For what sin was she killed?
And when souls are paired with their like, and when the girl who was buried alive is asked on the Last Day for what sin she was killed, to comfort her and to shame the one who wronged her.
3 · Verses 10–14A soul will know what it brought
And when the pages of deeds are spread open, the sky is stripped away, Hell is set ablaze, and Paradise is brought near to its people, then every soul will know what it has brought.
4 · Verses 15–18By the dawn as it breathes
Allah swears by the stars that hide by day and run their courses, by the night as it comes with its darkness, and by the morning as it breathes out its light.
5 · Verses 19–21A noble messenger
The Quran is brought by a noble messenger, Gabriel, peace be upon him: strong, with a high place near Allah, Owner of the Throne, obeyed by the angels and trusted with the revelation.
6 · Verses 22–25Your companion is not mad
Muhammad, peace be upon him, whom you know, is not mad. He saw Gabriel, peace be upon him, on the clear wide horizon, and he does not hold back the revelation. And the Quran is not the word of a devil; it is Allah's word.
7 · Verses 26–29So where are you going?
So where are you going? The Quran is only a reminder for all people, for whoever of you wants to go straight. And you cannot will anything unless Allah, Lord of the worlds, wills.
