The lessons
1 · Verses 1–4The piercing star
Allah swears by the sky and by the star that comes at night. And what will make you know what it is? It is the bright star whose light pierces the darkness. Every soul has a guardian over it, keeping its deeds.
2 · Verses 5–8What was he made from?
So let man look at what he was created from: a small fluid that comes from the father and the mother. Allah, who created him the first time, is surely able to bring him back to life after death.
3 · Verses 9–10When secrets are tested
On the Day of Judgement, secrets and what hearts hid will be tested. Man will have no strength to defend himself and no helper.
4 · Verses 11–14A decisive word
Allah swears by the sky that returns rain again and again, and by the earth that splits open with plants: the Quran is a decisive word that separates truth from falsehood, and it is no joke.
5 · Verses 15–17Give them time
The deniers are plotting to push back the truth, and Allah is planning to make the truth win. So do not hurry against them, O Prophet, peace be upon him; give them a little time.
