Why Surah Al-Alaq was revealed

The story as it comes in the sound hadith, in simple words for children.

The very first verses of the Quran were the opening of this surah. The Prophet ﷺ was worshipping alone in the cave of Hira when the angel Jibril came and said: Read. He said: I cannot read. The angel held him tight and said again: Read, three times, then said «Read in the name of your Lord who created» up to «what he did not know». The Prophet ﷺ went back to Khadijah with his heart trembling and said: wrap me up, wrap me up. The verse «Have you seen the one who forbids a servant when he prays» came down about Abu Jahl, who threatened to stop the Prophet ﷺ from praying at the Kaaba.

Source: The beginning of revelation: narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Aisha. The two verses about Abu Jahl: narrated by Muslim from Abu Hurayrah.
